mad sewing skills!

I think sewing skills are a great thing to have in your repertoire.

Whether you want to sew your own linens for your wedding make a table runner for a bridal shower- sew your own curtains for different seasons- sewing opens up a whole new world.
And can save you big bucks in the long run. Especially when you cant find the exact right pattern or color you want for an event.
One of my favorite bloggers Disney from Ruffles and Stuff is doing a segment for beginner sewers! Yep thats right from square one. I highly recommend checking it out I learned tons today and it was just the beginning post! Yay for learning new fun stuff!

Mehandi!

I was asked recently what one event If I had a chance to plan would be my ultimate favorite and I would have to say hands down an Indian wedding.

I think they are beautiful full of life color culture passion ect. I'm fortunate enough to have taken some classes on traditions around the globe and I thought I'd share one of my favorite parts of the Indian Wedding Festivities. Mehandi. I think this is such a beautiful form of art and it intrigues me. I would love to be able to be part of a this tradition one day.

To explain it in the best way possible I am pasting this article from wikipedia if you'd like to know even more you can click the link above.

Weddings in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are considered to be a sacred and sanctified ceremony. They can often be long ritualistic and elaborate affairs with lots of pre-wedding, wedding and post wedding ceremonies. The occasion of Mehndi ceremony is often one of the most important pre-wedding rituals especially for the bride. It is a fun filled ritual, which is celebrated mainly by the bride's family. Different regions of the country celebrate the ritual in a different way according to their own marriage customs, rituals, and culture. Mehndi ceremonies take place outside the Indian sub-continent amongst the Asian community and places like Birmingham in the UK are such known hotspots for lavish Mehndi celebrations.

The ceremony is mainly held at the bride's house or at a banquet hall on the eve of the marriage ceremony or few days before the marriage. Generally the bride and groom attend the event together and on the occasion a professional henna artist or a relative applies mehndi to the bride’s hands and feet the designs are very intricate. Often hidden within the mehndi pattern the name or intials of the groom are applied. The event generally has a celebratory festival feel to it with the women dancing and singing traditional songs and the girls wearing vivid colours such as hot pink and yellow, often if the bride to be wishes to tease her future groom she will make him wear purple. The groom usually wears jutti instead of western footwear.

wrapping paper is old school

There are so many cute things you can find now at the dollar stores.
For instance these pails! I shrieked with joy when I saw them-how amazing would these be as centerpiece vases- and in such fun colors. A lot of my friends lately are either pregnant or have had a baby and I love the idea of putting a little somthin somthin together for them inside of something they can use...and the pails come in- for cheaper than buying some wrapping paper and tape- look how fun this would be to open! So next time your cruisin your local dollar tore and you see something with a cool shape-could be a bowl in the kitchen aisle snag it for a gift- trust me it will go over well.

{image via ayearfromoakcottage.com}

Ok so your friends call and
say lets hang out tonight!-
{you have to make something yummy
quickly what do you grab?}

Ok people this is soooooo delicious...and my fav part easy- and you can serve it in a really cute bowl. I have a special black and white polka dot one I put this amazingness in. So what do you need?
I first tasted this at a going away party for my friends son. I've been hooked ever since.

1 package of Cream cheese can be light if you wish
1 package of skor bits- you can find these right by the choc chips
in the grocery aisle
3/4 cup to 1 cup of brown sugar

Mix the brown sugar and cream cheese then add as many skor bits as you like I usually use half a package per package of cream cheese.
Slice some perty apples and you have an awesome little delight for your guests palettes!
