Refinished & Reupholstered Dining Chairs

I inherited these dining chairs from my mother in laws storage shed.  I had no idea what they looked like, I just knew I needed some dining chairs and she said she had some extras.  When I received them I was convinced I could make something beautiful out of them.  While I attempted to give up, claiming it was too complicated, too dirty, to hard, eventually I got two of the chairs to work for me.  I will probably buy something more contemporary for the rest of the chairs, but for now these work as end chairs and we at least have a place to sit.
Before, holding the tools in our garage during another project.

After, at our dining table.

After, by itself.
I painted all of the wood with a grey primer and then finished it with a top coat of metallic silver paint.  I LOVE the finish, but I am debating distressing it with some stain.  For now the seats are reupholstered (not too perfectly) in a cream linen until I finish the rest of my kitchen and can get a better feel for what I want it to look like.

What do you think?  The look I would love to have is:

Mismatched Dining Chairs

These are the dining chairs that I would love to have, with a more traditional dining table.

Stay tuned for my newest project... I am so excited to share it.

Your chairs turned out fantastic! And you really could make it work with some different styles. Love that you refinished them yourself.

Did you have to sand them? I would like to do something with my golden oak chairs... but sanding chairs has to really suck.

I think grey was the perfect choice for that style of chair. It gives it a medeival feel. I think another layer of some stain/glaze would give the finish added dimention.

Oh how wonderful to get those chairs! I've got my eye out for some like that. Lovely job! followed over from remodelaholic's...so glad i found you! -shaunna :)

I actually didn't have to sand the chairs because they were pretty worn down to start with. I usually only sand to rough up the polyurethane finish, so I didn't need to!

I am really lovin your inspiration photo with turquoise mismatched chairs. SO cute.

You did a great job with your chairs, and they are super cute. Someday you will get what you are really longing for, but these are fabulous "this will do until I get what I really want" chairs. Good for you!

The chair looks very cool in the silver paint. That color does not work on everything, but it really works with the style of this chair. Nice job!

Those chairs are awesome. I love the silver! And the cutouts remind me of quatrefoil, which I am a little obsessed with right now - lol. Love them!
